Hazardous waste generated due to industrial and other activities are required to be properly disposed of, in case the same-cannot be recycled or reused. The facility for hazardous waste disposal comprise of secure landfill with or without treatment facility or may be integrated one having incineration facility as well. Disposal of hazardous wastes has to be done in a manner that does not pollute air, water and soil and does not cause any harm to human beings and habitat in the surroundings, during operative period and also after closure.
The disposal of hazardous wastes in a secured landfill facility with or without treatment, depending upon the wastes characteristics; is the technically feasible, environmentally safe and legally accepted management practice worldwide including India. The wastes disposed off in the secured landfill facility must comply with the direct disposal criteria specified by Central Pollution Control Board.
The toxic waste not complying with the norms required to undergo various pretreatment and treatment processes before disposing off the same into secured landfill facility.
